ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The USBC is a national mission-driven coalition of ~140 organizations representing nonprofits, breastfeeding coalitions, federal agencies, and businesses working at national, state/territorial, tribal, local, and community levels to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding/human lactation. We use an equity-centered collective impact approach to facilitate multisectoral collaborations and drive collaborative efforts for policy and practices that create a landscape of breastfeeding support across the United States.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Development Coordinator (SDC) is a trusted and critical member of the USBC team. The Senior Development Coordinator reports to the Director of Strategic Partnerships. Working in collaboration with the Communications Team, Executive Director, Staff Sustainability Team, and the Sustainability & Vitality Committee. The SDC supports the development and implementation of the overarching annual development plan and strategies. The SDC is a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual who is responsible for ensuring that individuals from member organizations, coalitions of all types, and beyond, are connected with the USBC in myriad opportunity spaces to ensure maximum engagement for impact and sustainability.

JOB DESCRIPTION – WHAT WOULD YOUR DAYS LOOK LIKE

Programmatic Support (estimated 60% of the role)

  • Work with the Communications Manager to coordinate the development and implementation of USBC campaigns each year.
  • Provide information, resources, and technical assistance on fundraising and engagement best practices for maximizing reach and impact among individual and organizational stakeholders.
  • Secure sponsorships and exhibitors for the national conference, meetings, and webinars.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with current donors and stakeholders.
  • Research and identify potential donors, corporate partners, and funding opportunities.
  • Maintain the donor management system.
  • Assist the Executive Director with grant prospecting, writing, and reporting, to support the timely submission of proposals and accurate documentation.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to cultivate and maintain major donor relationships.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and innovative strategies in the development and fundraising landscape.

Administrative Support (estimated 25% of the role)

  • Support the Sustainability Staff Team.
  • Respond to supporter inquiries and donor requests.
  • Maintain the integrity of individual and organizational records.
  • Coordinate workflows and generate queries to strengthen and increase donor engagement.
  • Manage registration, including payment collection, for USBC webinars and in-person events. 
  • Collaborate with team members and implement recommendations from the external accountant.
  • Manage correspondence with vendors and conference attendees to reconcile accounts receivable, member reimbursements, and other payables.

Committee Support (estimated 15% of the role)

The Senior Development Coordinator provides support to at least one USBC Committee (Sustainability & Vitality Committee) by:

  • Coordinating and scheduling meetings.
  • Taking meeting minutes, distributing relevant pre- and post-meeting materials, and maintaining accurate records of committee discussions, decisions, and action items.
  • Helping to ensure that committee members are aware of important and timely topics and policy priorities, supporting continuity across the USBC membership and committee spaces.
  • Sharing committee recommendations across the organization.
  • Collaborating with committee members to ensure timely follow-up on assigned tasks.

MUST HAVE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the USBC and our diversity, equity, and inclusion ethos.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, business), or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience (3 to 5 years) in nonprofit fundraising or development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities, excellent attention to detail and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, and donor management system CRM/database systems.
  • Demonstrated passion for the nonprofit sector and mission-driven work.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and to multi-task, with demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities.
  • Knowledge of best practices in fundraising and enthusiasm for testing new techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively on multiple priorities to support a thriving and high-performing virtual team with staff, members, partners, and volunteers across the country.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graphic design competency in Canva or other design software.
  • Experience working with Bloomerang or other fundraising software.
  • Experience working with Atlas/MC Trade.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary Range - $56,250-$60,000 /year based on education and lived and professional experience.

JOB LOCATION & TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

Ideal candidates reside in CA, DC, IL, MD, MA, NC, OH, and OR, where employer registration is already established. All positions with the USBC are remote with occasional travel to events. 

The Membership Engagement Manager works from their home office or other self-identified office location with fast and reliable internet service. The USBC provides a PC laptop loaded with necessary office software.
