ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The U.S. Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) mission is to drive collaborative efforts for policy and practices that create a landscape of breastfeeding support across the United States. The USBC functions as a national coalition of 100+ organizational members representing nonprofits, breastfeeding coalitions, federal agencies, and businesses working at national, state/territorial, tribal, local, and community levels to protect, promote, and support and breastfeeding/human milk feeding. The USBC uses an equity-centered collective impact approach to facilitate multisectoral collaborations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Data Management Specialist (DMS) is a trusted and critical member of the USBC team. The person in this role loves data and data tools. The DMS likes collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to find needles in the haystack or to tell a story based on numbers. They are happy to work with others to figure out what questions we need to ask and how we need to ask them to make new data discoveries. The DMS is a self-starter familiar with maintaining a relational database, doing queries and preparing reports, and supporting engagement activities through data analytics. The DMS will be USBC’s in-house power user in the following software applications, MC Trade CRM by Personify, fundraising CRM, QuestionPro, and MS Excel.  

JOB DESCRIPTION – WHAT WOULD YOUR DAYS LOOK LIKE

Database Maintenance (estimated 75% of the role)

The Data Management Specialist supports USBC’s operations, membership, communications, evaluation, policy analysis, grants management, and fundraising efforts by:

  • Maintaining the integrity of stakeholder records by routinely verifying, correcting, updating, adding, and removing records within the organization’s database system.
  • Accurately tracking stakeholder engagement and activities and routinely generating and disseminating reports to team.
  • Using data from the CRM to provide updates and information to team members for building, updating, and maintaining toolboxes and directories within the website, including the USBC Membership Directory, Affiliated Coalitions Directory, and USBC Equity Champion Directory.
  • Creating and conducting batch actions to update data within USBC’s CRM.
  • Making recommendations to team members on data best practices and serving as a resource for other team members who have a smaller interface with USBC’s data applications and tools.
  • Attending user group meetings and trainings by USBC’s CRM software companies.
  • Designing and building data collection tools and assisting external evaluator with data analysis.

Programmatic Support (estimated 25% of the role)

The Data Management Specialist provides programmatic support by:

  • Using the CRM to disseminate tools and resources that support outreach and cultivation, engagement and retention, capacity building, and policy, systems, and environmental change strategies for the field.
  • Supporting stakeholder training on the use of the online community platform and citizen data collection platform.
  • Providing technical and on-site event support for virtual and in person meetings and events.

JOB LOCATION, TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS, AND SUPPORT

USBC can only accept applications from residents of CA, DC, IL, MD, MA, OH, and OR, where employer registration is already established. All positions with the USBC are remote, though semi-annual travel to events is expected to resume when conditions allow.

The Data Management Specialist works from their home office or other self-identified office location with fast and reliable internet service. The USBC provides a PC laptop loaded with necessary office software.

MUST HAVE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • A commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the USBC and our DEI ethos.
  • Master-level education/training in relational database management, e.g., a Customer Relationship Management (CRM, or a Bachelor-level education/training in database management with a minimum two (2) years of job experience.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience importing and exporting batch data.
  • Demonstrated skills in designing queries to feed reports and dashboards.
  • Project management experience is strongly desired.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively to support a thriving and high-performing virtual team with staff, members, partners, and volunteers across the country.
  • Strong sense of accountability, integrity, and ability to handle highly visible responsibilities where people are counting on a great show-up.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and analytical skills with the ability to quickly aggregate and analyze information; flexible and able to multi-task, with demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities.
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with a fundraising CRM database is strongly desired.
  • Excellent teaching/training skills, including the ability to show patience and teach data handling skills to with enthusiasm and warmth while adapting the training to meet individual needs.
  • Working knowledge of data visualization software and desktop publishing software.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Outgoing and friendly nature, with a sincere interest in accommodating the varied communication styles and needs of diverse stakeholders while attending to details with care.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The Data Management Specialist is a grant-funded position. The federal award covering the role is secure through June 30, 2024.
  • Salary Range - $63,500 to $67,000/annually based on lived and professional experience.

The USBC has funding from the Centers for Disease Control to work with our stakeholders to develop and implement a five-year policy, systems, and environmental change plan (2021 to 2026) that:

  • Addresses breastfeeding inequities.
  • Enhances collaboration and capacity-building opportunities for organizations at state, territorial, tribal, local, and community levels.
